Building Adaptive Digital Experiences Since 2019

We started synapseflareon because we kept seeing the same problem. Websites that looked decent on a laptop but fell apart the moment someone pulled out their phone. Beautiful designs that nobody could actually use. Responsive wasn't really responsive.

So we built something different. Not another agency promising the moon, but a focused team that actually cares about making websites work across every screen size imaginable. From a small studio in Stoke-on-Trent, we've spent six years figuring out what responsive design truly means.

How We Got Here

2019

The Beginning

Started with three people and one mission: fix the mobile web experience. Our first project was rebuilding a local retailer's site that was losing half its traffic on mobile devices. We got it right, and word spread.

2021

Expansion Phase

Moved into our current Talke Pits location and brought on specialists in accessibility and performance optimization. This was when we realized responsive design isn't just about screen sizes—it's about creating experiences that adapt to how people actually browse.

2024

Current Focus

Now we're teaching others what we've learned. Our learning program launches in autumn 2025, sharing six years of practical knowledge with the next generation of developers who want to build websites that actually work everywhere.

What Guides Our Work

Team collaborating on responsive design layouts

Test on Real Devices

We don't trust simulators alone. Every project gets tested on actual phones, tablets, and screens of different sizes. You'd be surprised how often something breaks on a real device that looked perfect in your browser's dev tools.

Performance Matters

Beautiful design means nothing if it takes fifteen seconds to load on a spotty connection. We optimize images, minimize requests, and make sure sites load quickly even when your mobile signal isn't great.

Accessibility First

If someone can't navigate your site with a screen reader or keyboard, you've failed half your audience. We build with WCAG AAA standards from the start, not as an afterthought when someone complains.

Progressive Enhancement

Start with content that works everywhere, then layer on features for devices that can handle them. This way, nobody gets left behind just because they're using an older phone or slower connection.

The People Behind synapseflareon

We're a small team, which is actually our strength. Everyone here knows the projects inside out, and you'll never get passed around to junior staff who don't know your site's history. Here's who you'll be working with.

Astrid Vinterberg

Lead Developer & Co-founder

Built her first responsive site in 2015 and never looked back. Astrid handles the complex technical challenges and makes sure every breakpoint behaves exactly as it should. She's the one who'll catch that weird iPad landscape bug before it reaches production.

UX Specialist & Accessibility Lead

Comes from a background in assistive technology and brings that perspective to everything we build. Livia's the reason our sites work beautifully with screen readers and keyboard navigation. She regularly tests with actual users who rely on assistive devices.

What We Stand For

Honest Communication

If something's going to take longer than expected, we tell you. If a feature won't work well on mobile, we explain why before building it. No surprises, no hiding problems until launch day.

Practical Solutions

We're not interested in using the latest framework just because it's trendy. We choose tools and approaches based on what will actually serve your users best, not what looks impressive in our portfolio.

Long-term Thinking

Building sites that work today is easy. Building sites that still work well in three years when screen sizes and browsers have changed—that takes real planning. We build for durability, not just launch day.

Knowledge Sharing

We document everything and explain our decisions. When we hand over a project, you'll understand why we built it that way and how to maintain it. Education is part of every project we take on.

Developer testing responsive design on multiple devices
Stoke-on-Trent area workspace environment

Based in Stoke-on-Trent

We chose Talke Pits deliberately. Lower overheads mean we can focus on quality work instead of covering expensive central London rent. Plus, being outside the usual tech bubble keeps us grounded in how real people—not just other developers—actually use websites.

The Stoke-on-Trent area gives us access to diverse testing audiences. We work with local businesses who serve customers across different demographics and technical comfort levels. That real-world feedback shapes how we approach every project.

Most of our work happens remotely anyway. We've collaborated with clients from Manchester to Brighton, all without anyone needing to commute for meetings. Good communication doesn't require expensive office space in zone one.
